Bolla may be grown from humble roots in the heart of Italy’s Soave region, but its storied legacy spans the Atlantic. In celebration of the winery’s 140th anniversary, Bolla’s flagship Fondazione wines bear new labels in an homage to founder Alberto Bolla’s unwavering commitment to quality. Featuring Alberto’s original calligraphy, the new labels manage to be eye-catching and chic while representing Italy’s time-honored winemaking traditions.
Bolla developed its sterling reputation in restaurants, cementing its commitment to providing quality and value at every stage of the market. Raised in his family’s tavern in Soave, called Al Gambero, Alberto originally developed his brand as a passion project in 1883. Slowly, he began selling the white wines he loved to other local taverns and restaurants, eventually expanding into Piedmont in 1931 and investing in renowned red wines like Recioto and Valpolicella. Today, Bolla continues to produce wines from these regions, as well as Chianti, grown in partnership with 100 local grapegrowing families.
After World War II, well before Italian wines were a powerhouse segment among American drinkers, Bolla brought its signature wines to the United States. There, they pioneered the category across the East Coast and won the heart of Frank Sinatra, who often required that Bolla Soave be served in restaurants he frequented. Today, Bolla’s Fondazione wines—including that same Soave DOCG—remain stalwarts. Hailing from the Classico heart of Italy’s best-known DOC and DOCG appellations, the wines channel their respective terroirs while delivering excellent value.

Each Fondazione bottling uses traditional grape varieties and winemaking techniques, bottling the time-honored traditions of each appellation. The Soave Classico, for example, combines Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave from volcanic soils in a mineral-driven wine with citrus, tropical fruit, and mineral undertones. The Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie Classico DOC offers a fresh and characterful side of Pinot Grigio, with fruit and floral notes.
Bolla’s Valpolicella DOC and Chianti DOCG reds are likewise captivating, showcasing the diversity and range of Italian grape varieties and terroirs. Bolla first began producing Valpolicella in the early 20th century, and their current releases still embody the natural charm of Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grown in this special section of Italy. Bolla’s Chianti DOCG showcases Sangiovese’s bold red fruit flavors and subtle notes of earth and herbs.
Today, Bolla’s wines deliver the same must-have energy that made Sinatra—and scores of other Americans—early fans, combining layers of flavor and complexity with exceptional value. With the wines’ chic label upgrade and lasting commitment to wine quality above all, Bolla is poised to continue its prodigious legacy.
