There is no gin quite like The Botanist. An Islay Dry Gin, made on the island of Islay off the coast of Scotland, The Botanist is crafted with 22 sustainably hand-foraged, local botanicals, resulting in a complex gin with a versatile flavor well-suited to cocktails. 

The Botanist is made at the Bruichladdich Distillery on southwestern tip of Islay. It’s one of the few distilleries in the world to be B Corp certified, which recognizes companies that put people and the planet in line with profit. For 20 years, Bruichladdich Distillery has been committed to the highest standard of environmental sustainability, while investing in both its employees and local community. 

The Botanist’s full-time, year-round professional forager, James Donaldson, and his team traverse the island to hand-pick 22 Islay botanicals, including elderflower, wild thyme, white clover, wood sage, heather, and creeping thistle, to name just a few. These local ingredients complement the gin’s traditional botanical core of nine berries, barks, seeds, and peels.

The team harvests only what’s needed from locations abundant in plant life to ensure that the island’s botanical population stays healthy over time. These ingredients are harvested seasonally as it takes seven months to pick and dry each botanical. In the off-season, the team works on researching and mapping where botanicals can be found to help monitor each plant species and gather information about the wider ecosystem. 

This extra work is worth the effort as it results in a smooth, highly aromatic liquid with characteristics ranging from floral and citrusy to herbaceous, spicy, and earthy. The balanced flavor profile makes The Botanist a versatile spirit.
