The Senate Committee on Appropriations approved a bill that includes a policy urging the FDA to distinguish between grape varietals so that growers of winegrapes may be eligible for exemption or exclusion from the Food Safety Modernization Act’s produce safety rule. The California Association of Winegrape Growers submitted a request to FDA to exempt winegrapes from the produce safety rule on the basis that they are rarely consumed raw.

Researchers at the University of Exeter conducted research testing the effects of alcohol on memory and found participants who drank more remembered more of what they learned. The theory is that, when drinking, the hippocampus switches to “consolidating memories,” instead of learning new information.
