E. & J. Gallo Winery announced today that it has purchased California’s Germain-Robin. Gallo’s acquisition includes the Germain-Robin brand, the inventory of aged and aging brandies, and all finished goods.
Diageo has paid $700 million for the acquisition of Tequila brand Casamigos. Diageo may pay an additional $300 million in an agreement contingent upon Casamigos’ good performance over the next 10 years.
Toscana’s Ornellaia said it had begun harvesting its Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier and said it had all the hallmarks of a “great” year, despite the recent heat-wave in Italy. It is believed that smaller crops can be qualitatively very good and warm weather often leads to disease-free conditions.
A recent study by JAMA Psychiatry suggested that the rate of alcoholism in the US increased by more than 49%. However, researchers argue that the data was skewed due to changing factors between research waves, including asking different questions, offering monetary compensation, and administering drug tests.
