Over 120 years ago, Giulio Ferrari first recognized that northern Italy’s mountainous Trentino region offered a terroir uniquely suited to a variety with the potential to produce world-class sparkling wines: Chardonnay. While the grape originated in France’s Burgundy region and hadn’t been previously grown in the Dolomites, the soaring peaks (up to 3,280 feet), limestone-rich soil, ample sunshine, and cool nights were an ideal climate.

In 1902, the pioneering winemaker founded the Ferrari Trento winery, and went on to establish Trentino’s global reputation for elegant and fresh sparkling wines. The unique environment contributes to the grapes’ heightened acidity, aromatic complexity, and pronounced minerality—characteristics which became the foundation of Ferrari’s wines, such as the now iconic Ferrari Brut.

All Ferrari Trento wines are crafted with meticulous adherence to the traditional metodo classico. Benefitting from extended lees aging—a minimum of 24 months for standard cuvées and upwards of more than a decade for the top tier Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore—the wines yield layers of complex aromas and flavors paired with a refined effervescence, qualities that have consistently set Ferrari Trento apart from its contemporaries.

Proof can be found on the global awards podium. At the prestigious 2024 Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships, Ferrari Trento earned 13 gold medals across its full portfolio and secured its fourth consecutive Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year title, marking seven wins in the competition’s 11-year history.

Within Italy, too, the winery’s vintages regularly top the Trento DOC—the Italian appellation established in 1993 for sparkling wines produced in the Trentino region—and receive accolades from the Tre Bicchieri and Tre Stelle guides, benchmarks of quality that signal the wines are among Italy’s best.

Sustainability and environmental stewardship are also now core to Ferrari Trento’s approach. The historic vineyards are certified organic and managed using beneficial farming practices, such as cover cropping and green manuring, which incorporates young crops into soil to increase health and fertility. Prioritizing environmentally friendly viticulture helps Ferrari Trento ensure its vineyards’ long-term health and maintain grape quality. The eco-minded initiatives also earned the winery, which operates a carbon-negative production facility, the Biodiversity Friend certification.

Ferrari Trento has long embodied the Italian art of living, an embrace of culture, history, cuisine, and natural beauty. Its sparkling wines capture that ethos, offering a sense of place, tradition, and meticulous craftsmanship that has endured for over a century.
